Brooks (Phillips) is born in Boston.

December 13, 1835

Born at today’s 50 High Street, Phillips Brooks graduates from Boston Latin School and Harvard College, teaches at Boston Latin School, attends the seminary in Virginia, and is ordained in 1859. After serving at two churches in Philadelphia, Brooks returns to Boston to become rector of Trinity Church in July 1869, where he serves until he is named Episcopal Bishop of Massachusetts in 1891.* Brooks catches a cold while consecrating a new church in East Boston and dies soon after on January 23, 1893. He is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
